How searches are counted

One search = one ROUTE function call. ROUTE.DISTANCE, ROUTE.TIME, ROUTE.DIRECTIONS, ROUTE.STATEMILES, ROUTE.TOLLS and ROUTE.RESTRICTIONS each consume a search, as does each origin/destination pair in ROUTE.IFTA. ROUTE.URL is free — it just composes a Google Maps URL on your machine, no API call.

You pay once per route, not once per calculation. RouteMetrics remembers each answer inside your workbook, so reopening the file, deleting rows, or recalculating the sheet won't charge you again. Each cell you fill costs one search; after that, that route is answered from your workbook.

Subscribers drain their monthly quota first; credit-pack searches kick in only when the monthly bucket is exhausted. That way the perishable budget (monthly) gets used and the lifetime pack (credits) is held in reserve.

What's the trial?

100 free searches, and they never expire — use them all in one afternoon or spread them over months. No credit card needed. Once they're used up you can subscribe, buy a credit pack, or stop using it.

Can I cancel anytime?

Yes. From inside Excel, the task pane has an "Open billing portal" button that takes you to Stripe's hosted portal where you can cancel or update your payment method. Cancellations take effect at the end of your current billing period.

What if I exceed my monthly quota?

Nothing breaks and nothing is charged automatically and your top-up options are one click away. Buy an overage pack ($5 for 1,000 searches, $20 for 5,000) and new lookups start working immediately; cells still showing the message pick up their values when their inputs change or when you recalculate (Ctrl+Alt+F9, or Cmd+Alt+F9 on a Mac). Overage searches never expire.

Excel for Mac, Excel for Windows, and Excel on the web — anywhere Microsoft 365 runs.

Where does my data go?

Addresses you enter go to HERE to compute the route, and the result comes back to your spreadsheet. We store your email (for billing), search counts (for quota enforcement), and hashed versions of your address pairs (for cache lookup and analytics). We never sell data. See our privacy policy.
